Drama

Sam, our drama tutor, has a minor in theatre. He played Aladdin off-Broadway in New York and New Jersey. He taught drama for children one semester at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre and has also acted in a couple of plays there. He directed plays in college and has had many acting roles over the years. He is offering the following drama classes. At this time, we need six students committed to schedule a class and classes will be capped at ten students.

Drama and Storytelling (K-3)

It’s time to tell your own story! Practice story construction, character development, and performance skills through ensemble exercises and games that activate your actor’s tools – body, voice, and imagination. Classes will be one hour long and will run for eight weeks, ending with a performance.

Action! (grades 4-8)

Rehearse a play while strengthening existing acting skills. Go in-depth on physical and vocal choices, character development, and stage movement in a fun way. Students must be comfortable memorizing lines. Classes will be one and a half hours long and will run for eight weeks, ending with a performance.

Improv (grades 9-12)

Learn the gift of thinking on your feet with acting. Using many improvisational games and activities, everyone will get the chance to be the class clown on stage! Classes will be one and a half hours long and will run for eight weeks, ending with a performance.

Action 2.0!

This class is for young adults who are serious about acting. It will be an intense class to take you individually to the next level of your acting skills. The class will consist of monologue and audition practice, peer involvement and criticism to become a better actor, and basic fundamentals to give the best performance every time. Classes will be one and a half hours long and will run for eight weeks, ending with a performance.
