Art Classes

Our art specialists offer these small group classes and one-on-one sessions. At this time, we need six students committed in order to schedule a class. Classes will be capped at ten students.

Young Artists (Ages 6-9, with reasonable flexibility)
A small group of young artists go on a journey with their toolkit, the elements of art: line, shape, texture, value, color, form and space. Themes will be tailored specifically to each group's varied passions. The young artists will gain experience and tips through various mediums: drawing, collage, painting, clay and sculpture. Students may be present for all or some of the sessions. Sessions held biweekly at 2 hours each (3 sessions total).

Novice Artists (Ages 9-12, with reasonable flexibility)
A small group of artists hone their skills in drawing from life, still life painting in acrylic and portrait drawing. These foundational skills will grow any type of artist's confidence to explore other subject matter and their own unique styles with confidence. The artist will improve the quality of their work through fluent use of the principles of art, balance, emphasis, proportion, rhythm, unity and variety. Students may be present for all or any of the sessions. Sessions held biweekly at 2 hours each (3 sessions total).

Teen Artists (Ages 13-19 small group)
A small group of teens will grow in their identities as an artist. Using media of their choosing, the artist will explore their own ideas and be pushed in their critical thinking. In this course the artist will learning the skill of critique, understanding the relationship of form, content and context. Given the student's motivation, each student will walk away with a portfolio to apply to programs, have their own show, etsy site, or whatever else their imagination brings to life. Great for folks applying or beginning art school or university. Highly recommended to take three session in order, but accommodations can be made. Art with an Academic Twist (one on one, any age)
Learning in math, reading, science, and social studies can be greatly enhanced through a hands-on-and-visual approach. Using art to facilitate learning is Stephanie's specialty. In these one-on-one sessions, Stephanie will blend your student's interests (for example: Lego, Airplanes, Fairies, Music, Dinosaurs, and just about anything!) with creative projects that also teach the concepts of the subjects your student is struggling in! Through project-based learning, your child can connect their unique passions with their academics.

Art for Learners with Different Abilities (one on one, any age)
Art can be an oasis for a child who is struggling in school for any number of reasons. Stephanie will design lessons specifically to fit your child's unique abilities. Whether your child is on the autism spectrum, shows developmental delays, or has emotional impairment, cognitive impairment, ADHD, or dyslexia, and regardless of whether an IEP exists, art lessons can help your child channel energy, build confidence, develop fine motor skills and cognitive abilities, and channel emotions in a healthy way. Stephanie's lessons combine movement and sensory experiences with learning and cultivating positive emotions to create new connections and associations. Through practice, these positive experiences become habits, improving your child's behavioral and emotional wellbeing.

Art for the Sake of Art (one on one or small group, teens-adult)
If you've got an itch to become more artistic or try something new, Stephanie can offer lessons in just about any area you can wish for including: acrylic paint, watercolor, charcoal, pencil, oil of chalk pastels, markers, crayons, collage, image transfer techniques, color theory with abstract painting, portrait drawing, embroidery, molding clay, paper mache, paper sculpture, and weaving. Lessons can be one on one or with a group. If you want to get together with friends for a wine and paint night, Stephanie can come run the event.
